Menno Simons (2)

“Peter was commanded to sheathe his sword. All Christians are commanded to love their enemies; to do good unto those who abuse and persecute them; to give the mantle when the cloak is taken, the other cheek when one is struck. Tell me, how can a Christian defend Scripturally retaliation, rebellion, war, striking, slaying, torturing, stealing, robbing and plundering and burning cities, and conquering countries?” [“Reply to Gellius Faber,” Complete Writings of Menno Simons, pp. 554-556]

  1. That’s it right there. “How can a Christian defend SCRIPTURALLY” those things…one side has plenty of Scriptural evidence, but the other doesn’t – that would concern me if I was on the side that doesn’t agree with non-violence, and the rest.

  2. We Christians do not have to “defend Scripturally” when common sense on the issue is obvious.

    Just kidding!
